Jewelry making suppliers are finding a market for the extra-size necklace that is traditionally worn with the traditional black shirt, the article Jewelers are looking to fill the gap between the traditional white shirt and the trendier black turtleneck.
In India, the trend is called a bharatiya chan.

The black shirt is often worn with traditional Indian attire and can be bought for as little as Rs 5,000 in some markets.
In Europe, many jewelers are now turning to the black shirt and its larger size as a way to make larger jewellery.
“The idea behind the new trend is to try and create a wider variety of jewellery styles and styles with different colours,” said Ramesh Singh, who is the head of the jewelry brand, Lillani.
“The new trend seems to be getting stronger and stronger in India and I think that we will see more and more of it in the next two to three years,” he said.
According to the jewellery market research firm Mintel, Indian jewelry sales rose 11.5 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
In the past five years, the market grew 7.7 per cent.
The jewellery sector was valued at $6.3 billion in 2015, up from $5.7 billion in 2014.
